Productivity At Its Best: When the Work Gets Done

Today was a crazy day, in a long line of crazy days. I had a call with a potential new vendor, who texted me the wrong time and then was a no-show. A surprise phone call made me a bit late for my appointment; as it turns out, the party I was meeting was running even later so it all worked out. Then I rushed back for my session with my real estate coach – I was so hoping I had the date wrong because I had not been a good student this week – I was scolded in the gentlest way and we rescheduled for next week. Next was a phone meeting with a new referral partner, which I’m excited about. There was a delivery that failed to materialize, and lastly, kind of a combination social event and research opportunity, which ended, oddly enough with a new client! Unplanned, which is the best kind, right? Does that sound anything like how your days turn out?

I was so motivated to not disappoint my coach next week, that at the end of the long day, I still came home and hopped on the computer to work on my CRM. And by that I mean, I went old school, created new workable spreadsheets. Learning how to use my actual CRM program seems like it’s going to take more work than I have time for, but I still need to organize my contacts into some useable form.

Although it’s after midnight, I’m writing this blog because I do my best work after dark – I am a night owl. How about you – when are you at your best? Because as business grows, systems become increasingly important. You want to organize your work in a fashion suitable for delegation, whether you delegate to in-house staff, freelancers or a virtual assistant. How much of what you need to do – the back office functions – are you still clinging to?

Get yourself organized so you can readily make referrals to your referral partners. Get yourself organized so that you can “hand-off” the time-draining minutia of paperwork. Get yourself organized in the morning if you’re an early bird, or get yourself organized after the sun goes down. Get yourself organized so your business continues to grow long into the future.
